The Westin St. Francis is proud to partner with premier winery Chateau Montelena. Located just off the Landmark lobby, guests and the general public now have the opportunity to taste and purchase a wide selection of wines from this esteemed winery. Chateau Montelena, established in 1882, is known worldwide for their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery’s Chardonnay won the 1976 Paris Tasting, an event that inspired the 2008 movie “Bottle Shock.”
ABOUT CHATEAU MONTELENA
Established in 1882 by California entrepreneur Alfred Tubbs, the modern-day Chateau Montelena Winery has been owned and operated by the Barrett family since 1972. In 1976, Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world when a who’s-who of the French wine and food establishment rated the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay above all other wines in a blind tasting, convinced that this top-ranking white wine was one of their own. These results proved that Chateau Montelena could produce some of the world’s finest wines, and that California’s wine industry had come of age. Decades later, Chateau Montelena is still committed to producing world-class wines, with the Barrett family still at the helm.
